EDUCATION
Prof. Parman graduated in 1984 from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Istanbul (Turkey). She became resident in the Department of Neurology of Istanbul faculty from 1986 to 1988, and neurologist in 1992 at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie-Paris VI and Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital, where she also trained in Botulinum toxin injections.
EXPERIENCE
Since 1995, Prof. Parman has been working in the Department of Neurology at Istanbul’s Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Parman was one of the first neurologists to receive an European Neurological Society Fellowship Stipend in 1997, carrying out her research project on Dejerine-Sottas Disease. Prof. Parman became an associate professor in 1999, and a full professor of neurology at Istanbul’s Medical Faculty in 2005.
AREAS OF INTEREST
Prof. Parman’s interests in neurology has centred on neuromuscular diseases, especially peripheral neuropathies and nerve pathology. Her pathology laboratory is one of the two main centres working on this topic in Turkey. She is also one of the first neurologists to start Botulinum Toxin treatment for movement disorders in her country.
RESEARCH OVERVIEW
Prof. Parman has authored over 70 publications. Most of Prof. Parman’s research and publications focus on neuromuscular diseases.
