EDUCATION
Prof. Espinosa trained as a Medical Doctor at the Escuela Mexicana de Medicina, Universidad La Salle in Mexico. He further trained in Paediatrics, Paediatric Clinical Immunology at the Instituto Nacional de Pediatría, and obtained a Master of Sciences in Immunology from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional.
EXPERIENCE
Prof. Espinosa currently is a tenured professor of High Specialty course in Immunodeficiencies in paediatrics and basic biomedical research in mmunodeficiencies of the UNAM and the INP. He has been president and researcher at the Fundación Mexicana para Niñas y Niños con Inmunodeficiencias Primarias (FUMENI) (Mexican foundation for children with primary immunodeficiencies) since June 2001, and General Director of the Centro de Inmunología, Alergia y pediatría at Hospital Ángeles Lomas, Mexico City since 2000.
AREAS OF INTEREST
Prof. Espinosa’s research interests focus on paediatrics, allergy and clinical immunology. His present clinical activities are split between direct clinical activities (70%) and clinical and basic research (30%). Prof. Espinosa has worked on creating the First Unit of Gene Therapy in Mexico for the care of Primary Immunodeficiencies, to improve the prognosis of some forms severe immunodeficiency.
RESEARCH OVERVIEW
Prof. Espinosa is a researcher at the National System of Researchers Level II. He is Editor in Chief of Acta Pediátrica de México and member of the editorial board of Journal of Clinical Immunology and Alergia, Asma e Inmunología Pediátrica, as well as member of the Central Board of the Latin American Association of Immunodeficiencies (LASID). He has published over 60 articles in indexed scientific journals and several book chapters.
