Professor Shahram Attarian, MD, PhD, Head of the Reference Center for Neuromuscular Disorders and ALS at CHU Timone in Marseille, France. Coordinator of the FILNEMUS network and member of board members of the European Reference Network for Rare Neuromuscular Diseases.
EDUCATION
Prof. Attarian finalised his neurology postgraduate in 1996 and was awarded in 1997 of the “Medaille d’Or de Medecine”. In 2000, he finished his Fellow in neuromuscular diseases and ALS and joined the department of neurology and neuromuscular diseases in Marseille. Since 2014, he is the head of the department. Since 2017, he is the coordinator of the reference centre of Marseille. And since 2019, he is the coordinator of the French neuromuscular network centres (FILNEMUS).
EXPERIENCE
Shahram Attarian is an adult neurologist, head of the Department of Neuromuscular Disorders and ALS at the Timone University Hospital in Marseille, and a Professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine at Aix-Marseille. His center has been recognized as a reference center by the French Ministry for Neuromuscular Disorders and for ALS, and is also a European Reference Network center. Over the last four years, he has coordinated the French Rare Health Care for Neuromuscular Diseases Network (FILNMUS).
AREAS OF INTEREST
His primary research topics encompass the development of biomarkers and new therapeutic strategies for neuromuscular disorders. He has coordinated three international therapeutic trials (ALS, CMT, and GBS) and serves as the Principal Investigator for over 60 therapeutic trials in neuromuscular disorders.
